Remembering You

Will you walk away
If given a choice
Becoming a whisper
A lost and lonely voice

You struggle to breathe
As you’re choked by tears
You’ll try to leave
To overcome your fears

Words can sting
Worse than any physical hurt
Fight to get up
Or lie in the dirt

Remember these feelings
We learn from the past
Savor all happiness
Because good things never last

Strength starts here
In the weakest of days
The way it is now
Is never how it stays

I don’t see the monster
You claim to be
Look through these eyes
And see what I see

Mirror in the mind
Holds the reflection of the heart
I wish we could leave here
And go back to the start

When it’s all said and done
And the color starts to fade
I won’t be bitter
Or regret the decisions I’ve made

Fork In The Road

This is about us
And the tension in between
We think venomous thoughts
And say what we don’t mean

Can we continue this way
When what we had seems so lost
I’ve tried to hold on
But at what cost

The burning on the inside
From a light that was so bright
Has faded to a whisper
Now as dark as night

It hurts ‘cause I still love you
But I know I must let go
Even the heat of summer
Must give way to all the snow

I know that I will miss you
With no levee for my tears
Soon the cold will start to melt
As the spring of healing nears

You ask me not to throw away
The beautiful things we’ve shared
Damage comes from devastation
For which we’re unprepared

As I’m here in this moment
Time’s like an unmoving ocean
I feel alone and stuck in place
My heart so cold and frozen

Goodbye is all that’s left of this
Our wide-eyed wonderment gone
We walk in separate directions now
As the clock of life moves on
