In The Wake Of It All

hourglass sand
spills on the floor
you pick up the pieces
it's time you want more

rendor you speechless
cat got your tongue
speak up now
or wait til you're young

nothing makes sense
unless you pretend
rewrite these pages
for rules they bend

over and under
into the unknown
choose which king
you wish to dethrown

taste of the good life
becomes bittersweet
prepare to look down
the worlds at your feet

the sun does rise
if the moon shall sleep
ask flowers why they bloom
and clouds why they weep

I'd ask you to stay
if I thought you would
I don't regret this
even though I should

could love be this simple
like an eternal dance
why not live forever
if given the chance

the wind tells my secrets
but I know its lies
one day a tornado
the next a disguise

our glass is half full
so hold your breath
love is forever
or at least til death

whatever the reasons
we still have hope
dynamite explodes
at the end of the rope

tell me of you darkest dreams
hidden in your mind
sparks light those eyes
a magic here to find

these wispy realizations
are fogging up my brain
I shake to free them
to leave them in the rain

violins scream murder
down this bloody boulevard
you'll try to believe your fate
who knew it was this hard

in the wake of it all
you learn the truth
go back and sing a tale of faith
these places of your youth
